This book by St Alphosus Liguori is translated from the Italin by Rev. W Frean, CSSR. It is first published in 1963 with imprimatur by J. O'Collins, DD. Its copyright to the Redemptorist Fathers, Ballarat, Victoria in 1963. It is made up of 17 chapters with two supplments on Divine Love and Novena to the Eternal Spirit of Love. Each chapter discusses the love of God, the consuming fire of God's love and the Love of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The book itself can be used as points of medidation. Saint Alphonsus Liguori states at the beginning of the book that the treatise on the love of Jesus Christ is the practice of love based on the words of St. Paul "Charity is kind .." (1 Cor., 13), and "If any one does not love the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be outcast (1 Cor., 16,22). The letter of the Most Rev. P. Murray, CSSR to Pope Benedict XV in 1921 is quoted. "St Alphosus, himself a man of the deepest piety, was firmly convinced that the love of God was both the ever-flowing fointain of all virture and the bond by which Faith becomes united with the Christian life, Therefore he buil the foundations of holiness on the love of God.
