Father Henry James Coleridge converted to Catholicism after a retreat at Clapham under the Redemptorist Fathers. Determined to be a priest he proceeded in the following September to Rome and entered the Accademia dei Nobili, where he had for companions several of his Oxford friends, and others, including the future Cardinals Manning and Vaughan. He was ordained in 1856. His works are considered by scholars as being culturally important and part of the knowledge base of civilization. This volume of work the subject matter is the Public Life of Our Lord. It is a narrative of the Evangelists relating to the four or five summer months of Our Lord’s ministry in Galilee. Father Coleridge’s combination of learnedness, profoundness and compelling readability is almost miraculous. This book was first published in 1879.
